It had been a while since we received any update on the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross after it was discontinued in April 2020 during the transition to BS6 norms. After all this time, there now seems to be sudden activity on that front, with our dealer sources suggesting that the BS6-compliant model could be launched in April 2021. It will be the second-gen model for now (and not the third-gen that was unveiled back in October 2019).

The primary change will be under the hood as the diesel engine will be upgraded to meet BS6 emission standards. The BS4 V-Cross was offered with two diesel engines: a 1.9-litre and a larger 2.5-litre. The former came with an automatic transmission, while the latter could only be paired with a manual. Isuzu is expected to offer only the smaller engine as of now and provide it with an optional 6-speed manual.

Here are the detailed specifications of the BS4 model:

2.5-litre Diesel

1.9-litre Diesel

Power (PS)

134PS

150PS

Torque (Nm)

320Nm

350Nm

Transmission

5-speed manual

6-speed automatic

The BS6 update aside, we expect the V-Cross to be similar to the BS4 model. It should retain features like the touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, front and rear LED lighting, climate control, power windows, keyless entry with push-button, and electrically adjustable driver seat. Safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TC, and rear parking sensors.

In November 2019, Isuzu had announced that the BS6 upgrades could drive up the V-Cross’s price by a whopping Rs 4 lakh! Before being axed in 2020, it was priced between Rs 16.55 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh. We spoke to a few dealers, and they told us the updated pick-up could cost Rs 1 lakh more.
