The Mahindra XUV300 becomes the first sub-compact SUV to get a BS6-compliant powertrain option. Mahindra has updated the 1.2-litre turbo petrol to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. It is also the first SUV from the Indian carmaker’s stable to get a BS6-compliant power plant. Similar to the current version, the XUV300 is available in five variants: W4, W6, W8 and W8 Optional, and W8 (Optional Pack Dual Tone) and carries a premium of Rs 20,000 over the current non-BS6 variants.
Variant | XUV300 Petrol | BS6-complaint XUV300 Petrol | Difference |

Rs 20,000
|
W6 | Rs 8.95 lakh | Rs 9.15 lakh
W8 | Rs 10.40 lakh | Rs 10.60 lakh

The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 110PS and 200Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The XUV300 also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is yet to be updated. The Indian carmaker is making the switch to BS6 in a phased manner and we expect the diesel XUV300 and other SUVs to get the update soon.
Meanwhile, Mahindra is also cooking up a more powerful version of the XUV300 that will use 1.2-litre Turbo GDI unit expected to produce 130PS and 230Nm of torque. Its key rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, and the Tata Nexon.
