A convoy of Tata cars, including the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and the upcoming Altroz, was spotted testing in Drass, which is also called the gateway to Ladakh. The homegrown manufacturer seemed to be testing the updated BS6-compliant engines’ performance in these cars in high altitudes and tough weather conditions. While the Tiago, Tigor and Nexon are powered by BS4-compliant engines currently, the Altroz, which is slated to be launched in July, is expected to come with the updated powertrains. Have a look at the details of the powertrain options of all the above mentioned models:

Tiago and Tigor:
The Tiago and Tigor use a BS4-compliant 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor which will be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The 1.2-litre Revotron motor puts out 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque and can be had with a 5-speed manual or AMT option. While the petrol motor will be updated in accordance to the upcoming emission norms, the diesel engine will be axed due to the high costs of upgrading it to meet the upcoming emission norms.
The Tiago and Tigor spotted in Drass sported heavy camouflage, hinting that the models could receive a facelift soon. The Tiago and Tigor facelifts were spotted on the Mumbai-Pune expressway as well.
Nexon:
The Nexon uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. Both produce an identical 110PS of power and can be had with a 6-speed manual or an AMT option. Unlike the Tiago and Tigor, Tata Motors will update both engines in the Nexon in accordance with the upcoming BS6 emission norms. So expect a price hike when the manufacturer plonks the BS6-compliant engine under the hood of the sub-4 metre SUV. The Nexon is currently priced from Rs 6.58 lakh to Rs 11.00 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Altroz:
The Altroz will come with three engine options, including two petrols and a diesel. While both the petrol motors will be a direct lift from the Tiago and Nexon, the latter’s turbocharged petrol unit will come in a lower state of tune for the premium hatchback. Expect the diesel motor to be offered in a lower state of tune as well. The Altroz’ engines are expected to be BS6 compliant at launch itself.
The Tata Altroz is scheduled to hit our roads later this month. Tata has also officially teased the production-spec Altroz undergoing stringent handling tests and you can expect this one to be high on the fun-to-drive quotient. The Altroz will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the upcoming Renault Triber.
