The BS4-compliant Rapid, Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq, and Kodiaq Scout have been axed in the Indian market. All models will be brought back with BS6 petrol engines
Skoda India has discontinued the BS4 Rapid, Superb, Kodiaq, and Kodiaq Scout in the Indian market. The Czech carmaker has also pulled the plug on the existing Octavia, which will soon be replaced by its global successor. All these cars came with BS4 diesel and petrol engines. Skoda will bring back all the nameplates with updated BS6-compliant petrol engines and bookings have begun for select models. The manufacturer also showcased all of them at Auto Expo 2020. Here are all the details of each of them:
The BS4 Skoda Rapid came with a 110PS 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine and a 105PS 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine. Both engines have been discontinued due to BS6 emission standards and will be replaced by a BS6-compliant 110PS 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. Bookings are already open for the BS6-compliant Rapid. You can read more about the upcoming model right here.
Skoda India has discontinued the existing Octavia in the country. It’ll be succeeded by the 2020 Octavia, which debuted in the Czech Republic. The existing Octavia came with three engine options: a 150PS 1.4-litre TSI petrol, the tried-and-tested 140PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel, and the manic 180PS 1.8-litre TSI. Meanwhile, the next-gen Octavia is expected to hit showrooms by the end of 2020 and the good news is Skoda might offer the RS version from day one. Fingers crossed.
The BS4 Skoda Superb came with two engine options: a 180PS 1.8-litre TSI petrol and a 177PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. Both powertrains won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emission standards. Skoda will utilise this opportunity to launch the facelifted Superb, which comes with a 190PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. You can read more about the facelifted Superb here.
Kodiaq, Kodiaq Scout:
The Skoda Kodiaq and Kodiaq Scout came with a 148PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms. The manufacturer will replace this powertrain with a 190PS 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine which drives all four wheels. Yes, this is the same powertrain found in the recently launched Tiguan Allspace. The Kodiaq TSI is expected to reach showrooms by the end of 2020. You can read more about it here.
As you can see, Skoda India will be taking the petrol-only route in the BS6 era. That said, the manufacturer could bring back diesel models in the future if demand persists. Would you miss a Skoda diesel car in the future? Let us know in the comments below.
