The MPV will also see a variant rejig
  • The Marazzo will retain its 1.5-litre diesel engine and its output figures.
  • This engine produces 121PS/300Nm mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
  • Mahindra will discontinue the W8 variant and replace it with W6+.
  • The Marazzo is currently priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.76 lakh (ex-showroom).

Let’s face it. Even though it is a competent product with no direct rivals, the Mahindra Marazzo failed to set the charts on fire. Looking to turn things around, Mahindra will soon update the MPV with updated variants as well as a BS6-compliant powertrain.

According to the transport circular you see above, the Marazzo will retain its 1.5-litre diesel engine and the output figures of 121PS/300Nm (100PS in economy mode). These figures are sent to the front wheels with the help of a 6-speed manual gearbox. The absence of an automatic gearbox created a big gap in the Marazzo’s resume. But Mahindra is expected to come out with an automatic gearbox later this year.

The Shark-inspired MPV is currently available in four variants: M2, M4, M6 and M8. Going by the circular, Mahindra will drop the range-topping M8 variant with a M6+ while there will also be an M4+. This move might be an attempt to drop the prices of the Marazzo and pitch it as a more affordable offering. The 7- and 8-seater layout will be retained and offered across all the variants.

The Marazzo was launched in September 2018 to plug the gap between the omnipresent Toyota Innova Crysta and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. But as it turns out, the Mahindra is struggling to push out units as the sales numbers range in the vicinity of 1,000 every month.

As of now, the Marazzo belongs to a niche category with no major rivalry taking its price into account. It is priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.76 lakh (ex-showroom). The new M6+ variant might push down the top-spec M8’s pricing but do expect a premium for the BS6 updates. If you ask us, we expect it to be north of Rs 50,000 considering the Marazzo uses a diesel engine. Mahindra is likely to launch the BS6 Marazzo over the coming weeks.
