Bugattis are well known for their extreme speed and thanks to them, we have now seen a Chiron surpass the 300mph (490kmph) speed barrier, which is a number that should put even some Cessnas to shame. Bugatti has also unveiled the Chiron Super Sport 300+, a production version of the top speed record-breaking prototype, that costs £4.2million (Rs 36 crore) at the Frankfurt Motor Show. However, with this achievement, Bugatti has also announced its retirement from chasing top speed records. This has left many in anticipation over the carmakers future plans, but Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann is here to tell you that the party’s just started.
In an interview with The Roadshow, Winkelmann has revealed that the company is working on more iterations of the Chiron, with each pushing a different design philosophy. He further hinted that new variants will consist of one version entirely focused on maximising power-to-weight and one focused entirely on handling. Both will be based on the same core Chiron platform. Winkelmann also revealed that the Chiron hypercar is set to have a long lifespan, upto the mid 2020s. However, the production limit stays the same at 500 units.
Aside from the Chiron, Winkelmann also gave some hints on the follow-up to the hypercar. Some of the hints may include a 2+2 coupe body style for daily use, more luxury as well as electric power for the new model. This could very well mark Bugatti’s first proper crack at joining the EV party against the likes of the Rimac C2, Pininfarina Battista and the Lotus Evija.
With this recent revelation from Bugatti, it’s clear that there are some exciting new models planned for the future. And expect the carmaker to go a different direction in car design rather than just straight-line speed.
