Round 5 Of INMRC 2016 Kicks Off In Chennai

Thanks to the obstruction caused by cyclone Vardha in Chennai, the fifth and final round of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC) 2016 had to be cancelled. However, the race had been rescheduled to start from today and will span across three days. The final round could only be resumed after a three-month break as the officials of Madras Motor Sports Club put in their best efforts to bring the track back to its original condition following the heavy pounding it had received from the cyclone. The venue for the ongoing event, which will play host to 23 races set for said time, is the renowned MMRT race track in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.

The races under the national championship include a variety of categories such as the premium Super Sports Indian (with 400cc and 165cc bikes) class, Pro-Stock (165cc) and Stock (165cc). Additionally, there are MMSC One-Make Championships organised by TVS, Honda and Suzuki (Gixxer Cup). The event will also witness races exclusively for ladies, by Alisha Abdullah Academy and Honda.

As far as the competition in the races is concerned, the Super Sport Indian category (300-400cc) is witnessing a close battle between Ami Van Poederooijen (135), Spanish by origin, and his teammate Bengaluru’s Abhishek Vasudev (115). In the 165cc Super Sports Indian class, Jagan Kumar (141), Kannan Subramaniam (110) and Harry Sylvester (102) will battle it out for the top spot, however, clearly, Jagan has already won the category with a substantial lead.

In the Pro Stock category, though, the competition is much closer where Hari Krishnan Rajagopal (153) and Rajiv Sethu (144) stand only nine points apart. Last, but not the least, the stock 165cc class will see a four-way battle for the first place between Anish Shetty, Antony Peter and Joseph Mathew and PM Soorya.

The itinerary for today includes four races, followed by a hectic Saturday with 10 races while the remainder of the races will be wound up on Sunday.
