Car air conditioning systems are not just for the summer

It is true that the air conditioning system in a car is used to cool the passenger cabin and create a pleasant atmosphere for occupants. An air conditioning unit apart from cooling the cabin on hot days also removes moisture from the air in the passenger cabin. Also, it should be left in recirculation mode so that a stable temperature can be maintained in the cabin. From a safety perspective using the heater on a cold winter night or day prevents mist from building on the windows and obscuring vision. 

An air conditioning unit creates a pleasant cabin temperature which helps the driver and passengers in arriving at their destination alert and fresh without getting tired. Today, most places such as offices, homes, malls, restaurants, etc are air conditioned therefore travelling in an air conditioned car to these places saves your body from the trouble of acclimatising and making sudden adjustments to big differences in outside temperature and indoor temperatures in air conditioned buildings. 

It is true that turning the air conditioning on increases fuel consumption of a car, but driving at speeds above roughly 40 km/h with the windows down increases drag considerably which increases fuel consumption. The faster the vehicle moves with the windows down more and more engine power is wasted to make the car moves forward. It is recommended that the air conditioning be used while driving above certain speeds as this consumes less fuel than driving with the windows down.
