Proper care of your car’s exterior finish is the one of the single most important lessons to learn about ownership, regardless of the cars age. Your car’s paint job is one of the most obvious features and expensive to replace and repair. We can say with absolute certainty that taking the time to learn which products to use and when to use them, will add years to the life and luster of your car’s paint. With hectic work hours and tiring schedules its almost impossible for most to remove time off for some much needed TLC for your car. While the mechanicals are taken care off in the service centres, for exteriors and interiors you have 3M.
Scotchguard Paint Protection Film
No matter how careful one is, scratches are the inevitable fact of life. You hate it, even despise it but sooner or later no matter how much care you take you will find them on your precious set of wheels. Now 3M aims to offer a solution for this. Again like I said, scratches are inevitable, but then it is bound to be less painful if the scratch is ‘not’ on the paint right? So what this amazing product does, is that form a transparent layer around the most scratch prone area of the car (in case you want to be extra careful, around the whole car is possible too), so that the paint stays protected at all times. So what is this transparent layer that works so effectively? 3M has come up with a durable, high grade colourless urethane film which consists of three layers. The top clear coat gives the car a nice glossy finish below which there is the thermoplastic urethane while at the bottom lies a clear acrylic adhesive layer.
Now this might be new in India, but the same has been used across the world in extreme conditions even on airplanes and helicopters. The best part is apart from offering protection, 3M Scotchguard needs zero maintenance and can be treated just like you treat normal paint. Washing and waxing can be carried out normally and it is absolutely invisible unless you really pay attention. And in case the film is bruised with scratches over time, all you have to do is peel it off.
No gum residue to deal with, just clean clear paint. You can either apply to the whole car or like I mentioned earlier, only in the most scratch prone areas like the front and rear bumpers, bonnet, fenders, near the door sill etc. Love your paint? Look no further, get Scotchguard!
Paint Sealant Program
Now there are dozens of paint protection services out there. You have Teflon coating, waxing, polishing and then some. Basically they all end up doing the same thing but just end up calling it different names. So then how does this Paint Sealant differentiate itself? For starters just the long list of steps carried out is convincing enough but in the end it’s the result that really speaks for itself. So what does Paint Sealant do? As the name suggests it’s a sealant which primarily protects the coat of paint against the elements of nature like the harsh sun, bird droppings, grime, dust etc. Applying the same is quite a lengthy process too.
Here is the list of steps carried out while applying the Paint Sealant:
(1) Washing with 3M shampoo for preparing the surface
(2) Claying to remove bugs and tar marks
(3) Sanding to remove deep scratches
(4) Rubbing to remove swirl marks and marks left due to sanding
(5) Polishing to remove fine swirls and give the smooth glazed look
(6) Application of paint sealant that forms the final protective layer on the finished surface.
This protective layer minimizes the contact surface of water drops with the car surface, giving water beads that roll of the cars surface. This is particularly good in rains considering the fact that rain water has abundant acidity. 3M saying the sealant has a life of about a year due to our dusty conditions after which it has to be reapplied. While this not only revitalizes an old car, in case of a new car it protects the brand new paint keeping the original finish intact. The Paint Sealant creates a shell like layer on the paint surface and this bonding is much stronger than that provided by natural wax. Thus, a sealant will stay on the car surface for a much longer duration than natural wax thereby giving longer protection time
Germkleen Interior treatment
While its important how your looks from the outside, the fact remains that you spend more time sitting inside and driving it than standing outside and appreciating its looks. And for people commuting long distances, the car cabin is like a second home which like any place needs to be kept clean and hygienic. The Germkleen treatment from 3M Car Care is based on a patented 3M technology devised by 3M’s in-house R&D teams.
It provides a 99% germ-free car interior that is fresh, clean and has a pleasant smell. There are 2 primary products used in this treatment – The Anti-Microbial plastic cleaner and the Anti-Microbial upholstery cleaner. Both are foam based products which are sprayed respectively on the plastic parts like dashboard, trims and seats, carpets and roof. The treatment helps get rid of 99% of germs in the car. Being a foam-based product it dries much faster than shampoo-based treatments prevalent in the market.
Think your car deserves the care that you read about here? There are plenty of 3M outlets around. The treatments you see here have been carried out at the Apte road branch in Pune and the brand new outlet in Malad, Mumbai. For any queries and cost details contact 9225805476.
