Following a hiatus of almost a year, CFMoto is planning to make a strong comeback in the industry. After sneakily launching its first BS6 product, the 300NK, the Chinese brand is all geared up to bring in a slew of motorcycles to India. While the 300NK’s supersport sibling, the 300SR, is due for a launch later this year, the 650 trio will be launched by April.
The Kawasaki Z650, Ninja 650, and the Versys650 had been ruling the 650cc segment unrivalled, until CFMoto launched the 650NK, 650GT, and the 650MT. The aggressive pricing of the three motorcycles posed a threat to the Kwacker’s market. However, the BS6 norms and the pandemic brought CFMoto’s onslaught to a screeching halt.
Just like with the 300NK, we do not expect to see any major change on the bikes. All three bikes share the same 650cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, but with varying engine tunes to suit every bike's unique characteristics.
The brand’s mid-capacity naked, 650NK, churned 61PS at 9,000rpm and 56Nm at 7,000rpm. Meanwhile, the sports tourer extracted 62.5PS at 9000rpm and 58.5Nm at 7000rpm, and the ADV managed a surprising 70.7PS at 8750rpm and 62Nm of torque at 7000rpm from the same engine. It would be interesting to see if the brand manages to retain these performance figures.
The BS4 650NK, 650MT, and the 650GT were handsomely equipped as well. All the bikes had dual petal discs up front with J.Juan dual piston calipers. At the rear, a single disc with J.Juan single pot caliper handled the braking duties. Suspension duties were managed by telescopic forks on the NK and the GT while the MT was equipped with a USD fork. All three bikes had a monoshock at the rear.
Unlike most manufacturers that hiked the prices of their products post the BS6 transition, CFMoto has managed to retain the competitive price tag of the 300NK and we are hopeful it continues with the 650cc trio as well. The 650NK carried a price tag of Rs 3.99 lakh while the 650MT was priced at Rs 4.99 lakh and the 650MT at Rs 5.49 lakh. With the price hikes that Kawasaki offerings witnessed at the beginning of this year, the CFMoto bikes will be considerably cheaper even with a slight premium.
