The Skoda Kylaq sub-4m SUV is the latest product from the Czech carmaker on our shores. It is being perceived as the ‘baby Kushaq’ by many, owing to its subtle resemblance to its bigger sibling. However, despite sharing a similar platform and the same powertrain, if noticed closely, the Kylaq does bring certain styling changes that set it apart from the larger Kushaq.
In this story, we’ll take a closer look to compare the design of both SUVs from our Czech friends, in detail below.
First things first, the Kylaq sits in a segment below the Kushaq and is smaller in size than the compact SUV. Here is how their sizes compare:

Talking about design, the fascia of both SUVs reveal the first noticeable differences. The Kylaq sports a split headlight setup, featuring sleek DRLs positioned separately above the headlamps. In contrast, the Kushaq has single-piece LED headlights with integrated DRLs, while the fog lamps with a cornering function are located just below. Both SUVs share Skoda’s signature butterfly grille, but the Kylaq’s is fully blacked out, whereas the Kushaq’s grille gets chrome surrounds.
In the silhouette, the Kylaq bears some resemblance to the Kushaq in its body style, which certainly has led to its perception as a mini version of the Kushaq. Both feature roof rails, similar door handles and body cladding, but the Kylaq’s door cladding is notably broader.
They ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, with distinct alloy designs setting them apart.
At the rear, the Kylaq has a slightly curvier design, while the Kushaq maintains a more upright and relaxed stance. Both get wraparound tail lights, with the Kylaq featuring C-shaped lights as opposed to the Kushaq’s L-shaped ones. The Kylaq’s rear also includes a silver skid plate similar to the Kushaq’s, and while the ‘Skoda’ wordmark on the Kylaq sits on a black panel connecting the tail lights, the Kushaq doesn’t get any such treatment.
Inside, the dashboard layout of the Kylaq mirrors that of the Kushaq, with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center. However, the Kylaq offers a slightly different dual-tone black and grey cabin theme than the Kushaq and the passenger-side dashboard’s design is also ever so slightly different. It also features a two-spoke steering wheel for a sportier touch much similar to the Kushaq, with chrome accents outlining the AC vents for added detail.
Both the Kylaq and Kushaq dual tone leatherette seats with adjustable headrests. You get to see a centre armrest equipped both for the front and rear occupants.
The Skoda Kylaq even shares a similar set of features including a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, powered and ventilated front seats, keyless entry and a sunroof.
For safety it gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist and a reverse parking camera with sensors.
Under the hood, what powers the Kylaq is a similar powertrain as the Kushaq’s including a single 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque-converter transmission. It has an output of 115 PS and 178 Nm.

The Skoda Kylaq will be offered in four broad variants with prices starting from Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The full price list is scheduled to be announced on December 2. Upon its full fledged launch, the Kylaq will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO. It will also be a potent alternative to the Kushaq for people who are looking for a smaller and more affordable Skoda SUV.
