The GP2 or the GP2 Series is Formula 1’s feeder series that has given the sport some of the best drivers over the years; few of the names being Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Hülkenberg. The series has also witnessed Indian drivers like Karun Chandhok, before he qualified for the F1, and Armaan Ebrahim, both hailing from Chennai. The south Indian mega city continues to produce some of the best racing talents from the country with the latest addition to the list being Mahaveer Raghunathan. The teenager will participate in the official post-season car test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, starting November 30, 2016.

Mahaveer will be racing a GP2 machine for the first time, thanks to Carlin Motorsport, a renowned racing outfit. He will be operating on it for two days (Wednesday and Thursday) with Carlin, before ending his debut test run with MP Motorsport, a Dutch racing team.

The Chennai lad is very confident for the upcoming test run as he was able to finish second, overall, in the 2016 Auto GP championship (now named as Boss GP). He has also secured the FIA 'A' grade licence for his performance. The ‘A’ grade licence is mandatory for a driver to carry in order to be eligible to compete in the GP2 championship.

The 18-year old racer has handsome experience of racing from his previous challenges in the European Formula car championships such as Formula 4, European F3, GP3 and Auto GP. Speaking on his latest venture, Mahaveer said, “It will be a great experience to test the GP2 machines at a Formula One circuit. I would look to enjoy and in the same time learn as much as I could. Both Carlin and MP are big names in GP2 and I am looking forward to work with them”.

Also, since the GP2 series is mostly hosted in European countries, it could act in favour of Mahaveer, who has plenty of European series driving experience. However, it's important to wait until the GP2 test run results before concluding that he's India’s next F1 driver in the making. Hang around for more details after his practice run.
