All of us here at ZigWheels love the Transformers movie. Great cars, great action... OK, maybe the sequel didn't live up to the hype, but we're pretty much sold on anything that features the lovable bright-yellow Chevy Camaro transforming robot which talks via the onboard XM satellite radio, Bumblebee. And it's not just us who love Bumblebee so much. After the launch of the new Camaro following the release of the first movie, thousands of would-be buyers called up Chevy showrooms asking to purchase the 'Bumblebee' Camaro. Finally though, Chevrolet gave in to public demand and announced the 2010 Camaro Transformers Special Edition at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego, California.
This special edition 'Transformers' package primarily comprises of the bright yellow paint-scheme with high-gloss black center rally stripe package that has become so iconic and closely associated with the 'Bumblebee' character from the movie. Apart from the paint scheme, the new trim also comes with Autobot (the good guys from the movie) shields adorning the driver and passenger side panels, each of the four wheel's centre cap and on the interior centre console. The car also features the 'Transformers' logo on the door sill plates as well as embedded into the hood rally stripes. And the price for all these goodies - well they should set potential customers back by about 995 US dollars (approx Rs 48,000).
The Transformers Special Edition trim is currently available two Camaro models, the LT or the SS. The Camaro LT is powered by a 3.6-litre V6 engine with variable valve timing that produces 309 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque that is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission as standard. A Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic with TAPshift control is also available as an option. The high-performance Camaro SS on the other hand packs a brawny 6.2-litre V8 powerplant under the hood that is capable of a peak power output of 432 PS and a monstrous 569 Nm of torque and comes paired with a TR6060 six-speed manual transmission. The automatic version of the SS comes with a new L99 V8 motor that has been optimized for the auto tranny and features GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system.
The Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition is a great tribute to the most lovable character from the Transformers movies and fans of Bumblebee will no doubt be dying to get their hands on this car. If only they could get the car to actually transform into a robot... now that would be something!
