An updated version of the Chevrolet Beat has been spied testing outside Bengaluru. The front and the rear of the car has been covered properly but the uncovered side profile is a clear giveaway of the Beat’s dimensions. From the spied images, it looks more like a facelift and not a generation change.
Launched in 2010, Chevrolet facelifted the Beat recently in January 2016 with new interiors. The car also got a diesel engine in 2011. It is currently powered by a 1.2-litre DOHC petrol unit which churns out 77PS of power along with 106.5Nm of torque. The 1.0-litre TCIC diesel engine puts out 56PS of power along with 142.5Nm of maximum torque. The petrol variant returns a fuel efficiency figure of 17.8kmpl whereas the diesel engine returns an impressive 25.44kmpl.
Known for its youthful exteriors and tech-laden interiors, the Beat has been an important product for Chevrolet in our market and has been crunching good sales figures for the American carmaker after the Tavera.
We can expect this facelift to be launched by the upcoming festive season and it will take on the recently launched Tata Zica and the Maruti Celerio in the hatchback segment.
At the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, Chevrolet also showcased the Essentia, a compact sedan based on the Chevrolet Beat. It will be launched in India by 2017 and will most likely use similar engines as well.
