Chevrolet hasn’t had a joyous run in the Indian four-wheeler market. Among its few products that have clicked in our market is the Beat hatchback. The American carmaker wants to cash in on this sentiment and announced that the upcoming Chevrolet Beat will be offered as a notchback along with the standard hatchback car. The Chevrolet Beat notchback will be a sub-4metre car to make use of the excise benefits. The new Chevrolet compact sedan will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the upcoming Ford Figo Aspire.
It is expected that styling of the upcoming notchback will be based on the new Chevrolet Spark that was launched in the South Korean market and design cues will be similar to the Hyundai offerings. Like the hatchback, the Chevrolet Beat notchback will be based on the M300 platform. The Chevrolet compact sedan will be offered with both petrol and diesel powerplants. Both the motors will have a displacement of 1.0-litre and will be a three-cylinder engine. The mills will be tuned to offer better fuel efficiency as it is among the most vital criteria’s for buyers in this segment. With a jump in traffic, consumers are slowly shifting to automatic transmissions. It is expected that Chevrolet will offer automatic transmission on the upcoming Beat notchback. With the American carmaker investing heavily in India, localisation percentage for its components will also rise. This should enable Chevrolet to price its offerings competitively. The Chevrolet Beat compact sedan will debut in 2017.
