General Motors has announced a voluntary recall of the Chevrolet Cruze. The recall refers to a loss of ignition or engine stalling experienced in some vehicles at low speeds. Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured between 2009 and 2011 have been affected by the recall.

Under the recall, the vehicles will be inspected and the recommended repairs or replacements will be carried out at no cost to customers. The company has estimated that the service measure takes no more than an hour to be completed. Customers will be contacted and requested to take their vehicles to the closest authorised Chevrolet dealership with prior appointment. An option of pickup and drop to their residential addresses is also being offered.

Speaking on the voluntary recall, Markus Sternberg, vice president – aftersales, General Motors India, said: “We are committed to putting our customers at the centre of everything we do and providing safe, high-quality vehicles. If we foresee a potential issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible, as part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction. This is a voluntary recall and, as far as we are aware, does not affect the safety of the vehicle but we want to make sure that our customers experience the right performance from their vehicles”

The Chevrolet Cruze is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel mill that puts out 166PS of power and 360Nm of peak torque. The Cruze is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. On the price front, Chevrolet retails the Cruze at Rs 13.95 lakh for the base LT variant, Rs 16.43 lakh for the LTZ manual and Rs 17.46 lakh for the top-spec LTZ automatic (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi). Placed in the D1 sedan-segment, the Chevrolet Cruze competes against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Jetta and the Hyundai Elantra.
