Auto Expo 2020 saw a strong showcase of EVs, signalling the rise of the electric revolution in India that started with the Kona Electric back in 2019. Among these EVs, there were a variety of compact models that could serve as an ideal option for the everyday city driver. Here’s all of them that debuted at the expo:
Kicking off the list is the Bird Electric EV1, also known as the Haima E1 in China. What’s more is that it will be launched in the country in about a year. It features a silhouette similar to hatchbacks like the WagonR, and gets modern features like a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Under the hood, it comes with 200km and 300km variants, however, we will get the 200km variant initially. It makes 95Nm out of a 20.42kWh battery pack, with a top speed of 120kmph. Great Wall Motors, EV limelight was at the R1 electric hatchback at Auto Expo 2020. It will also be launched in India soon. It produces 47PS and 125Nm via a 33kWh battery pack to give it a top speed of 100kmph. It sports a relatively simple design, packed with features like a digital instrument cluster and a floating touchscreen infotainment system. Here’s more about it.
MG E200:
MG’s E200 is one of the smaller EVs from the carmaker’s lineup that was present at Auto Expo 2020. It measures 2497mm in length, 1526mm in width and 1616mm in height. It can be available in 2, 3 or even 4 seater configurations. Feature highlights include an air conditioner, digital instrument cluster and connected car technology. While we are yet to know what’s under the hood of the hatchback, it will offer a claimed range of 250km. It may not make it to India anytime soon, but you can known more about it here.
After its debut at Auto Expo 2018, Mahindra has finally launched the eKUV100, priced from Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it one of the most affordable EVs you can buy in the country today. It produces 54PS/120Nm out of a 15.9kWh battery pack to give a claimed range of 147km. It features a variety of tweaks to differentiate itself from its internal combustion engine counterpart. Mahindra Atom
To top off the compact EVs is the Mahindra Atom EV which will go into production later this year. Its electric power train features swappable batteries to extend the vehicle’s range. It will also come with 4G connectivity. Yes,it may look like a battery powered toy car, but it is a part of the carmaker’s vision for last-mile connectivity.
