Continental Tires India has announced that it will begin local manufacturing of its premium line of rubber, particularly the performance tyre range labeled ContiSportContact 5 for premium models and the ContiSportContact 5 SUV.
These tyres will be made at Continental’s Modipuram plant in Uttar Pradesh. The new locally manufactured rubber will be for 19- and 20-inch rim sizes as they are most popular among the target segment of premium models and SUVs. The brand states that these tyres are particularly designed to offer an improved balance between increased grip, shorter braking distances, reduced road noise at steady speeds and lower rolling distance for improved economy. Until now, these wider performance tyres were only available as imports.
Additionally, Continental will also be introducing Digital Solutions for its commercial buyers and fleet owners under the Conti360 services. This service aims to make it easier to digitally monitor the tyres using sensors to help commercial outfits streamline their operations, especially when it comes to tyre-related costs.
Samir Gupta, Managing Director Continental Tyres India and Head of Central Region BA PLT RE APAC, commented at the launch of the new products, “The step towards localising the production of Ultra High Performance 19-inch and 20-inch rim size tyres for SUVs and premium vehicles segment and the Digital Solutions for commercial vehicles highlight our further commitment to the Indian market and providing quality tyres suitable for varied Indian road conditions.”
