With COVID-19 rearing its head once again in India, we’ve just learnt that Hyundai has delayed the launch of the Alcazar. It was slated to be unveiled by April-end, with a price announcement shortly thereafter. Hyundai is likely to decide on a new timeline for the Alcazar which will be unveiled and launched shortly.
The Alcazar is essentially a longer Creta with three-row seating. Not only is its 2,670mm wheelbase longer than the Creta by 150mm, it’s also a size bigger than the Safari and Hector Plus. Like its rivals, the Alcazar can be had either as a 6-seater with captain seats or a 7-seater with bench seats for middle row occupants. The former comes with a unique floor-mounted central armrest with cup holders and a wireless phone charger.
Other notable features likely to be part of the package are a 10.25-inch infotainment system with connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety should be covered by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and electronic stability control. The 360-degree camera should make the process of parking this lengthy SUV rather hassle-free.

The Alcazar will be powered by a 152PS 2.0-litre petrol engine (from the Tucson) and a 115PS 1.5-litre diesel engine (from the Creta). Both engines can be had with either a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission.
For more on the Alcazar’s design, read our detailed first impressions review. The Alcazar is expected to command a premium of Rs 70K to Rs 1.2 lakh over the Creta’s variants. It will lock horns with the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.
Stay tuned to this space for the new launch timeline. Until then, we suggest you stay home and stay safe.
