Cumulative Two-wheeler Sales July 2018: Hero Leads Again, Suzuki Records Its Highest Growth And More!

At the end of July 2018, Hero MotoCorp has managed to continue its dominance in the Indian two-wheeler market. The company sold 6,79,862 two-wheelers in total in India, a growth of 9 per cent when compared to the same period last year. With various new models in the pipeline, including the Xtreme 200R, XPulse and updated versions of the 125cc Duet and Maestro Edge, we expect the number to climb further.

Closely following Hero MotoCorp is India’s leading scooter manufacturer, Honda. The Japanese company managed to sell more than 5 lakh units for the third consecutive month, helping it recorded a growth of 10 per cent. Out of the 5,48,557 units it sold, scooters accounted for 3,45,550 units, signifying the Japanese manufacturer’s strength in the scooter market. Most of the credit for the impressive sales figures must be given to the updated scooters it launched last month, including the Honda Activa 5G, 2018 Honda Dio and the Honda Activa-i.

Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company has replaced Bajaj for the third spot this month. The Hosur-based manufacturer sold 2,47,382 units, a 13 per cent growth year-over-year (YoY). Scooter sales grew by an impressive 29 per cent as the company sold 1,18,996 units of its popular automatic scooters, including the TVS NTorq 125 and the Jupiter

Although Bajaj Auto dropped down to fourth in terms of overall sales figures, the company enjoyed its second highest growth of the year with a total of 2,01,433 units sold last month. This helped them achieve a 27 per cent growth YoY.

Royal Enfield sold a total of 67,001 units last month, registering a YoY growth of 6 per cent. While it may seem that the Chennai-based manufacturer’s growth is stagnating, we expect its fortunes to change with the launch of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.

Although Suzuki continues to lag behind its primary rivals, it recorded its highest ever growth rate last month. The company sold 53,321 units last month when compared to 34,038 units in July last year. This translates to a YoY growth of 56.6 per cent. July also saw Suzuki recording its highest ever monthly sales of all time. This can be attributed to the introduction of Intruder 150 and updated Gixxer and Gixxer SF.
