Over the years, we’ve seen some incremental improvements made in terms of rider safety technology. This includes everything from radar-equipped motorcycles to putting airbags in your riding jackets. Speaking of the latter, Dainese has now come out with a “smart jacket” which apparently senses a crash before it occurs.

It is essentially a vest, which can be worn underneath any jacket, and yes it can be folded like any other normal vest. The company claims the intention behind this was to make it as easy as any functional article of clothing.
Dainese says that the jacket features a small electronic control unit, which controls the seven sensors hidden inside the vest. These sensors analyse data such as g-force, extreme angle changes, pitch changes and others 1,000 times per second. If there’s any sudden variation in any of these readings, usually in the event of a crash, the jacket will deploy the airbag. What’s more impressive is, it doesn’t require any connection to the bike itself.

The smart jacket will be made available in six different sizes, for both women and men riders. Dainese will start retailing it in July for £569.95 (Rs 49,824). Yes, it’s expensive, but an iPhone wouldn't save your life when you crash, whereas this airbag jacket might.
