The Datsun Go recently underwent a crash test conducted by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The hatchback, however, managed to score only two stars in this test.
The ASEAN NCAP awards ratings to cars after determining the amount of protection that a car can provide to its passengers in the event of a crash.
The Datsun Go has scored 6.82 points out of 16, in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category which resulted in its 2-star rating. It managed to acquire only 46 per cent compliance in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category making it eligible for 2-stars yet again.
The Datsun Go had received a lot of negative publicity when it scored zero-star rating in a crash test conducted by Global NCAP last year. The Go’s structure collapsed in a frontal impact crash test and it was deemed unstable by the international crash test agency.
For this purpose the Japanese carmaker decided to make its products safer and also upgraded the sheet metal grade which according to Datsun, could hold well in the instance of a crash than the previous model.
The Datsun Go is equipped with a 1.2-litre displacement three-cylinder motor churning out 68PS of peak power and it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Datsun claims a mileage figure of 20.6kmpl for the Go hatchback.
