Datsun redi-GO is on sale in five variants and will be available only with a petrol engine option.
Datsun redi-GO launch

A month after announcing that the redi-GO will range between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh, Datsun has now launched the car in India. The redi-GO has been priced at Rs 2.39 lakh for the base variant and goes right up to Rs 3.34 lakh for the top-spec trim. (both ex-showroom, Delhi)

In terms of design, the redi-GO looks youthful thanks to some sharp lines all around. What's admirable is that the production version looks identical to the concept that Datsun had showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. The large hexagonal front grille with the leaf-shaped headlights, the silver scuff plates on the bumpers and the deep cut character line along the sides, all give the redi-GO a unique look.

The redi-GO shares it underpinnings with its sibling, the Renault Kwid. Based on the same CMF-A platform, the redi-GO uses a 799cc three-cylinder unit that powers its French cousin as well. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, this engine is good for 54PS of peak power and 72Nm of maximum torque. The Japanese carmaker claims the redi-GO returns an efficiency of 25.17kmpl, which, again is the same as the Kwid's.

Bookings for the Datsun redi-GO had already commenced last month and with the car now launched, deliveries will commence immediately. The Datsun redi-GO will have to hold its own against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Renault Kwid and the Hyundai Eon.
