Datsun will debut its new hatchback, the redi-GO on April 14. It will be the Japanese manufacturer’s third offering in India after the GO and GO+, informed a release on Monday.
Datsun has had a rocky start in India after its first two products failed to garner much attention in the country. However, the redi-GO could be a game-changer for the Datsun, given its similarities with the Renault Kwid that has been a huge hit in the subcontinent ever since its launch last year.
The Datsun redi-GO will be based on the Datsun GoCross concept and will have the same CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid. The images that were released narrate the tale of a different styling on the Datsun hatchback though.
The redi-Go gets a taller stance against the SUV-like styling of the Kwid. The ground clearance also appears quite high in comparison to its Renault counterpart. The typical Datsun look is maintained with a large front grille, flanked by bulgy headlamps on either side.
Under the hood, the Datsun redi-GO is expected to come with the same 800cc engine from the Kwid and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. And just like the Kwid, the new hatchback will also get a 1.0-litre engine and an AMT gearbox in the near future.
Expected to be priced at around Rs 2.7 lakh for the base model, the Datsun redi-GO will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 in the segment apart from its inspiration, the Renault Kwid.
