Datsun will soon be expanding its product portfolio in India with the redi-GO hatchback. The entry-level hatchback will come at a starting price of Rs 2.5 lakh and will be launched in the first week of June. The company is already accepting pre-bookings for the hatchback at a minimum amount of Rs 5,000.
The redi-GO underpins the same CMF-A platform as its Renault cousin, the Kwid. It is also powered by the same 800cc three-cylinder petrol unit that produces 54PS of power and 72Nm of peak torque. The hatchback will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which could later also feature an AMT transmission.
On the looks factor, the redi-GO is completely different from the Renault Kwid. The redi-GO has a taller stance and is slightly more compact to look at. The urban hatch has the signature Datsun grille flanked by wide headlights. It comes with DRLs mounted on the front bumper only for the top-end variant. The tail section with well sculpted tail lamps that further accentuates the overall tallboy design of the vehicle.
With the redi-Go, Datsun will mark its entry in the entry-level hatchback segment and is looking forward to achieve a market share of five per cent by 2020. Datsun is expecting to receive a similar response for the redi-GO hatchback as Renault has for the Kwid. The redi-Go will face stiff competition from other competitors like the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon in the entry-level hatchback segment.
