The recently launched Mahindra NuvoSport gets a more powerful version of the 1.5-litre diesel engine which also works in the TUV300. Is Mahindra considering launching the updated engine in the TUV300 as well? Read on to know more
Mahindra TUV30

Mahindra has recently expanded its product range with the launch of the all-new NuvoSport last month. The sub-4 metre SUV is powered by a mHawk100 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine that produces 101PS of power and 240Nm of torque.

Although the TUV300 also uses the same engine, its powertrain is detuned to produce 85PS of power and 230Nm of torque. The current engine powering the TUV300 feels very underpowered. We had reviewed the compact SUV and had reported the same in our observation. Also in terms of mileage, the company reports the TUV300 to returns 18.49kmpl while the NuvoSport returns 17.45kmpl. For a marginal increase in the economy and from the verdict received from past users and auto experts alike, Mahindra is likely to opt for a better performing engine that fulfils the lacking element.

In terms of price, the base variant of the TUV300 is priced at Rs 7.37 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while the NuvoSport is priced at Rs 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Hence, for a marginal difference of Rs 2,000, Mahindra is likely to consider providing all variant of the TUV300 with the more powerful mHawk100 engine at the same respective prices. If Mahindra makes the shift in the TUV300, then the current underpowered mHawk80 engine is like to be discontinued.
