Ducati has unveiled the new Monster 1200 R at the 2015 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The global unveiling was done at the Volkswagen Group Night a day prior to the official press day. This doesn’t really come as a surprise as Ducati is now under German carmaker Audi which is part of the Volkswagen group. The Ducati Monster 1200R is the most powerful production naked motorcycle to be manufactured by the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer. The 1,200cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor generates 165PS of peak power and 131Nm of maximum torque. In comparison to the Ducati Monster 1200 S, the new R version churns out 10 per cent more power and 5.5 per cent higher torque. The powerplant is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Ducati Monster 1200 R rides on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres with a beefy 200/55 R17 size tyre at the back and 120/70 R17 at front.
It sports a redesigned passenger seat cover, pentagonal shaped exhaust muffler tips, billet machined footpegs, 3-spoke forged wheels and carbon fiber front fender. Being a higher-spec model, the Ducati Monster 1200 R features top drawer cycle parts like Öhlins steering damper, 48 mm diameter Öhlins USD forks, and fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock unit at the rear. The new naked sports model by Ducati is even lighter than the S version thanks to the new tailpiece, forged wheels, and carbon fibre components - bringing the total dry weight down to 180 kg. The Ducati Monster 1200 R is also equipped with the Ducati Safety Pack including the ABS and Ducati Traction Control. It also gets three ride modes: Sport, Touring and Urban. The bike will be offered in two shades - Ducati Red and Thrilling Black. The Monster 1200 R is still EURO 4 homologated and will be available in India by early 2016 and being a CBU should be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
