Ducati India is all set to launch the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 in the country on May 1, 2018. The Monster 821, which sits in between the Monster 1200 and the Monster 797, gets some pretty interesting updates along with subtle design changes.
For starters, the updated Monster now features a more muscular and sharper design. It also gets the same headlamp design as the Monster 1200. The 2018 version of the naked street fighter also gets a TFT instrument cluster, something which is missing on more expensive motorcycles such as the SuperSport and the Multistrada 950.
In terms of features, the Monster 821 gets all sorts of electronic wizardry like Ducati Safety Pack, a three-level Bosch ABS, an eight-level traction control system and three different riding modes - Urban, Touring and Sport. In addition to this, it will also receive a quickshifter with a slipper clutch.
Powering the updated Monster 821 is a BSIV-compliant 821cc, 90-degree, V-Twin engine. However, power has gone down by 2PS to 111.5PS at 9250rpm while the peak torque is now rated at 86Nm at 7750rpm when compared to the older model, which produced 89.4Nm.
The 43mm USD forks and the adjustable monoshock have been retained from the older bike. Even the brakes are the same Brembo 320mm dual discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
We expect the new Monster 821 to be priced around the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Dealerships have already started accepting bookings at a refundable amount of Rs 1 lakh. The customers are likely to receive their machines in the first week of June. Once launched, it will compete against the Triumph Street Triple S, the Yamaha MT-09 and the Suzuki GSX-S750.
