With over 1,00,000 units sold in the 16 years since its inception, Ducati’s Multistrada range has been one of the Italian marque’s bestselling motorcycles. The range consists of one Multistrada 950 variant and five Multistrada 1260 models. Ducati has now added the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour to that lineup. Price-wise the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour sits between the 1260 Enduro and the range-topping 1260 Pikes Peak. It is 1,500 Euros (Rs 1.2 lakh) more than the S version sold in Europe. Expected price in India could be around Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom).
Ducati has managed to make the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour stand out from other 1260 models thanks to a new matte Sandstone Grey paint job with Ducati 1260 S livery. It also gets a new seat with the GT badge. Underneath, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is a Multistrada 1260 S and gets the same 1262 DVT L-twin powerplant and semi-active suspension setup. However, it gets standard touring kit such as heated grips, fog lamps, a keyless fuel filler cap, tyre pressure monitoring system and the Ducati Touring pack consisting of two panniers.
Its 1262cc motor delivers 158PS at 9500rpm and a peak torque of 129.5Nm at 7500rpm. In fact, 85 percent of the torque is already available from 3500rpm onwards. Ducati has done well to keep the motor reliable, with service intervals stretching to 15,000km or 12 months. Like the 1260 S, the Grand Tour also gets Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evo semi-active suspension that allows you to adjust the suspension depending on the number of passengers and luggage. Electronic aids include Vehicle Hold Control (VHC), 4 Riding Modes, Ducati Safety Pack (Cornering ABS Bosch + DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down, Cruise control, Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), 5-inch colour TFT display, full LED headlamp and Ducati Cornering Lights.
Deliveries for the new Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour will begin in Europe by end-October 2019. We expect Ducati to launch the new motorcycle in India by early 2020
