Achieves 160 Million Kilometers of Service; Saves 15 Million Litres of Fuel

Auto enthusiasts the world over have always been a tad skeptical about Hybrids replacing the technology used by present day mass-market automobiles. Whether it's their acute pricing or the inconveniences that go with having them re-charged from time to time, it always boils down to the "numbers" with such innovative green vehicles. How many miles? How many litres of fuel? How expensive?

So, along came a decade old global diversified power management company which recently declared that vehicles using their systems have covered an aggregate distance of 160 Million Kilometers. This feat has helped Eaton in reducing global fuel consumption by 15 million liters (diesel ) , and further reduced harmful emissions by 40,000 metric tons.

With more than 4,500 of Eaton's hybrid systems in use today on city buses, school buses, package delivery trucks, beverage delivery trucks, refrigerated delivery trucks, refuse and recycling trucks, utility vehicles and other commercial applications, Eaton has now also begun offering a complete line of electric vehicle charging systems to further reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions.

Eaton also began commercial production of its hybrid hydraulic system known as Eaton Hydraulic Launch Assist™ or Eaton HLA® in the fall of 2010.

One of Eaton's prime customers is package delivery major, UPS which operates one of the largest private fleets of alternative-fuel vehicles. Earlier this year UPS ordered 130 of Eaton’s hybrid system that will be deployed next year in New York, New Jersey and California. UPS estimates these 130 delivery vehicles will save 250,158 liters of fuel and 671 metric tons of emissions annually, representing a 35 percent improvement in fuel economy.  The company says that it is the equivalent of 128 passenger cars being taken off the road. Companies such as FedEx, Coca-Cola Enterprises and PepsiCo are using delivery vehicles with Eaton hybrid systems.
