Though the world of conventional petrol-powered motorcycles witnessed a lot of action at this year’s EICMA, EVs weren’t left behind either. Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica has unveiled the streetfighter version of the Ego, the Eva Ribelle, at the 2019 EICMA. We have already covered the Ego and boy, it claims some serious figures both in terms of performance and range. With the newly introduced Eva Ribelle, Energica aims to tap into the litre-class petrol-powered streetfighter segment.
Compared to the Ego, the Eva Ribelle gets a wider, straighter handlebar along with a 790mm seat (lower than the Ego by 20mm). This should result in much more comfortable ergonomics. That said, the footpeg position has remained the same as the Ego.
The motorcycle draws power from Energica’s newly developed battery pack for its 2020 lineup. This ginormous 21.5kWh lithium-polymer battery is paired to an oil-cooled permanent magnet motor, which is capable of producing 107kW of power and a generous 215Nm of torque! Energica claims the battery can offer a 400km range in the city, 230km combined (city and extra-urban), and 180km on the highway. To top things off, the battery is capable of charging up to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes using the Mode 4 DC Fast Charging system! If that isn’t incredible, Energica also claims the battery can achieve the 400km range using DC fast charging in an hour! If you’re using the Mode 2 or Mode 3 slower charging systems, the bike ensures a range of 67km for an hour of charging.
Like the Ego, the Eva Ribelle also comes with 4 riding modes, 4 regenerative maps, six-level traction control system, ABS and cruise control. However, the top speed has been reduced to 200kmph as opposed to the Ego’s 240kmph. That said, the underpinnings are shared with the Ego. It rides on 43mm Marzocchi fully adjustable inverted fork and a Bitubo rebound and preload-adjustable monoshock. Brakes include 330mm dual discs with Brembo calipers and a 240mm disc at the rear.
Other notable aspects of the bike include a TFT screen that’s capable of pairing with a smartphone via the MYEnergica app. The motorcycle follows a proper streetfighter design and minimalistic twin bug-eyed headlamps adorned by a small flyscreen up top. Unlike the Ego, the Eva Ribell features a single-piece seat for better comfort.
Energica offers a 3-year/50,000km warranty on the battery and interestingly, the vehicle warranty itself is lesser, at 2 years. The brand hasn’t revealed the price yet, but we reckon all that technology could command pretty serious money.
