Toyota Etios Cup launched in Chennai

With the VW Polo cup doing well to promote youngsters into the world of Motor racing, Toyota Kirslokar Motors is following a similar path with its Etios Motor Racing series. The Japanese giant unveiled the concept cars for its Etios Motor Racing series at the Lanson Toyota showroom on Poonamallee High Road.

The six-race series, slated to be held next year, will see participants using FIA-qualified standardized cars provided by Toyota and jointly tuned by motor racing house Red Rooster Racing. The aim of providing standardized cars is to offer equalj opportunities to all drivers and place an emphasis on the driver’s skill and talent. 

Toyota Etios Cup launched in Chennai

In terms of driver selection, the registration process saw a total of 800 persons being short listed. Through camps which would test the driver’s fitness and skills, 25 of them would be selected for the championship which would be held on three different circuits. The camps, which will begin next weekend in Pune, will also be held in Kolkata, Banglore and New Delhi. The entry fee for selected participants is likely to be about Rs.1.5 lakh. 

Managing coordinator, marketing division, Hitoshi Fukui said this series was a part of Toyota’s global motorsports mission of technological change and will contribute to the local motorsports of the country. The EMR cars weren’t the only attraction at the showroom. There were also racing simulators, radio controlled cars and a special section called the childrens automotive learning area where kids accompanied by their parents were given a crash course in basic automobile technology.
