We have some good news regarding the launch of the Aprilia SXR 160. According to our sources, the maxi-styled scooter, first shown at Auto Expo 2020, will be hitting dealerships in the next couple of weeks. The SXR 160 will be launched in the first or the second week of December and is expected to cost around Rs 1.40 lakh, on-road Chennai. That means we are looking at an estimated Rs 1.25 lakh ex-showroom pricing. Certain dealers are already accepting bookings for the scooter for a nominal Rs 5,000.
The SXR 160 is Piaggio’s effort in making the maxi-scooter genre more accessible for Indians. The European design language is quite appealing. It is the largest scooter that will go on sale in India -- that is until the Honda Forza 350 makes an appearance. Only time will tell whether the conservative Indian buyer would open up to the idea of a large scooter or not.
Powering the SXR 160 is the same 160cc engine from the SR 160 that puts out 11PS and 11.2Nm. There is likely to be no change in engine tune but with smaller tyres, the performance will definitely be different from its motoscooter sibling. Aprilia will also be tuning the suspension for a more pliant riding experience. Plus, there’s an apron-mounted storage compartment, USB charging port, and a fully digital instrument cluster that gets optional smartphone connectivity. More details on the scooter here.
