Ahead of its official launch, the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 BS6 has started arriving at select dealerships across the country. Unofficial bookings are open for Rs 5,000, but the token amount may vary from dealer to dealer. The price of the motorcycle had already been revealed in our earlier report. It costs Rs 1,03,309 (ex-showroom Mumbai), making it Rs 9,203 more expensive than the BS4 Pulsar NS160. Expect Bajaj to launch the motorcycle in a few weeks.
The BS6 Pulsar NS160 features a fuel-injected 160cc air-cooled engine with oil cooler. It is likely to make slightly less power and/or torque than the BS4 bike because of emission restrictions. For reference, the carburetted BS4-compliant Pulsar NS160 makes 15.5PS at 8500rpm and 14.6Nm at 6500rpm. The 5-speed transmission will be retained in the BS6 model.
The underpinnings have also remained unchanged: it continues with a telescopic front fork and a gas-charged rear monoshock. Brakes include the same 260mm front and 230mm rear petal disc on both ends with single-channel ABS.
Overall, the price hike feels a bit too steep considering the only addition is fuel injection. We wish Bajaj had offered at least an LED headlamp, like most of the BS6-compliant version of BS4 two-wheelers, for better value.
When launched, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 BS6 will rival the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6, Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Yamaha FZ-S FI V3.0 BS6.
