No it is not under 4 metres and yes it is priced lower than the new Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. For 2012 Mahindra has gone to further lengths to take complete ownership of the once part Renault owned Logan sedan, and made it a vehicle that has been Indianised in a complete sense.
Some very apparent exterior side cladding and a chrome tipped rear spoiler were part of the many changes that the Logan underwent in the course of being revamped as the Verito. However now with the best selling entry level passenger vehicle from the Mahindra stable now working towards a new brand building exercise for itself as the Verito, change has once again come hopefully for the better with the launch of a face-lifted version.
Having re-worked the three box budget sedan’s overall styling and ergonomics, Mahindra has fitted the new face-lifted Verito with a new chrome grill, larger and more pronounced headlamps, a smarter looking bumper and as expected some very neat looking alloys on its 14 inch wheels.
At the rear there is a new deck lid with the number plate now fitted onto the trunk rather than the rear bumper as we saw on the outgoing model. Interior highlights on the face-lifted version include a contemporary grey interior colour theme, elegant new upholstery, a two tone instrument panel, 2-DIN music system with complete connectivity and a redesigned center console.
Even the driver ergonomics have been reworked to better suit Indian driving styles. This means that the wiper switches are now located on the left (was right on the Logan), while the headlamp and indicator stalks are position behind the steering wheel on the right side of the driver. The trunk release lever that was earlier fitted on the passenger side has now been relocated to the driver side allowing for easier access. Other comfort and convenience features include door mounted power window switches, redesigned grab handles and electric ORVM controls.
What does remain unchanged however are the engine options on the new Verito, which continues to be powered by the same Renault 1.5L DCi diesel engine and 1.4L MPFi petrol engine. Even safety features like Anti lock braking system (ABS) with EBD, Anti theft engine immobilizer and Driver Airbag options remain unchanged on the new car.
Speaking at the launch of the New Look Verito, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “The New Look Verito sedan has been created in line with the Mahindra tradition of giving more value to customers. It enhances value by being more stylish and contemporary, feature packed and with convenient ergonomics. The Verito, which has always been a sensible buy, is now even more attractive with its enhanced style quotient”.
The New Look Verito, available in 2 variants in Petrol (G2 and G4) and 3 variants in Diesel (D2, D4 and D6), starts at an attractive price of Rs 5.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi for Petrol, BS4) & Rs. 6.26 lakh (ex showroom Delhi, for Diesel, BS4). With 23 changes in all, revamping the new Verito into a more ergonomic and premium looking budget sedan has cost Mahindra & Mahindra Rs 50 crores.
