The Corolla is perhaps the most important car that Toyota makes, not just around the world but in India too. Alongside the Innova, the Corolla has done more for the Toyota brand in India than perhaps any other vehicle. With that said, every new iteration of the Corolla, be it a new generation model or a facelift, is worth talking about. The Toyota Corolla Altis is due for a facelift in 2017 and that is worth taking note of. However, it has now been revealed the facelifted 2017 Corolla Altis will be coming to India in 2017, the same year of its worldwide launch.
The 2017 Corolla Altis was shown quite recently in Russia, one of the 150 markets across the world Toyota sells the car in. The facelift reveals a restyled front end sporting a narrower grille and wider headlamps. While the model showed in Russia came with full LED headlamps, the Indian version will likely get projector units with daytime-running LED lights. The facelifted Corolla Altis also sports a restyled front bumper that has new cut-outs for fog lamps. Styling changes continue to the rear of the car but they are not as drastic as at the front. The chrome strip above the number plate has lost some flab and the taillights (full LED) get the smoked treatment.
The changes continue to the interior of the Corolla Altis. The centre console has been redone and houses a 7-inch touchscreen. It is what is called Toyota Touch 2 and makes use of a high-strength glass face. Toyota says it has a mobile phone-like interface (whatever that is supposed to mean). There is a 4.2-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster. The air conditioning unit has also been reworked and the side air-con vents have become circular. Toyota claims to have used better materials in the cabin, though we will get to see how much when the car comes to India.
Toyota has not mentioned any mechanical changes being made to the car. This means the Corolla Altis, in 2017, will be powered by the same 1.8-litre petrol motor that is good to put down 140PS, mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed CVT gearbox, and the 1.4-litre diesel engine that puts down 90PS. We do not expect the prices of the 2017 Corolla Altis to change much though those will be revealed closer to the launch. We will keep our fingers crossed and would ask you to do so too.
