2013 saw the launch of the Honda Amaze in India. With its entrant in the sub 4-meter segment, Honda also brought along its first ever diesel engine for India. The Honda Amaze has now been in the market for almost three years and has had no updates whatsoever. Now though, the Amaze will soon go through a facelift both on the exterior and on the interior front. Here are five things that you need to know about it.
Exterior updates:
The new Honda Amaze features slightly new styling and updated on the exterior front that makes the car look a lot more current. You get a new grille with a lot more chrome and a new bumper that gives the Honda Amaze a sportier edge. The headlamps and tail lamps have also been given an update with a slightly new setup. Sadly, the boring wheels are as they are and have not been changed. The new Amaze has very minor updates but does go a long way in terms of making the car look a lot more current and modern.
Interior updates:
The biggest updates in the new Honda Amaze will be the new interior. The Amaze came under tremendous flack for getting the same slightly boring interior that you got on the Brio. After considering what the consumers had to say, the interior now get a big update. This includes an all new dashboard with a new layout and rectangular AC vents that replace the older round ones. You also get an updated instrument cluster and a new centre console.
Gadgets, Gizmos and Space:
The Honda Amaze will come with a new infotainment system for the mid variant and the top of the line version. Where the mid variant will get a color display with Bluetooth telephony, the top of the line variant will get a touchscreen setup. The touchscreen infotainment will also get navigation along with standard features like a Bluetooth telephony. The Amaze facelift will also get steering mounted controls and electrically adjustable ORVMs. In terms of space, the Amaze will still have great space at the rear both in terms of legspace and shoulder space. The boot too will remain unchanged and will have a decent amount of space.
Engines:
The Amaze was the first Honda car in India which got the new diesel i-Dtec engine. The new and facelifted Honda Amaze will be mechanically identical to the older car. The petrol will be a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine with 87PS of peak power and 109Nm of peak torque. The diesel will be a 1.5-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that will get 100PS of peak power and 200Nm of peak torque. The petrol will be mated to both a 5-speed manual and a VCT automatic gearbox while the diesel engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Price and Competition:
The Honda Amaze is a sub 4-meter sedan and goes up against a whole host of cars. Competition includes the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, the Ford Figo Aspire, the Tata Zest, the Hyundai Xcent and the upcoming Chevrolet Essentia and Tata Kite too. Expect the new car to be priced at Rs 5.50-8.00 lakh for the petrol and Rs 6.25-8.50 lakh for the diesel making it slightly more expensive than some of its competitors.
