The fast just got faster. Ferrari has just dropped the Evo version of its latest XX car, the FXX-K. This makes it the third XX car to get this treatment after the legendary FXX and the 599 XX.
Ferrari Claims that the Evo is a result of 5,000km of development runs and 15,000km of reliability test runs. To make the Evo fiercer than the FXX-K, the engineers at Maranello have designed a new aero package for the car. For instance, the rear and front bumpers have been revamped. The rear wheel arches have been enlarged and get functional air vents which allows the wake from the rear wheels to be channelled efficiently. The front brakes’ air intakes have also been redesigned and help it cool down better, in turn making it more efficient.
Talking numbers, the FXX-K Evo’s downforce coefficient has gone up by 23 per cent and is now 75 per cent more than the road-legal car it is derived from. Ferrari claims that the FXX-K Evo’s aerodynamic delivers a downforce that is in the vicinity of the GT3 and GTE championship cars. The company says it has been achieved after more than a year worth of CFD simulations and wind tunnel testing. To cope up with the new aerodynamics of the car, the suspension has also been recalibrated.
The FXX-K Evo flaunts a twin-profile fixed wing on the tail. It works seamlessly with the active rear spoiler and is supported by two side fins and a centre fin. The car also gets vortex generators which enhance downforce capacity of the twin-profile rear wing by about 10 per cent.
On the inside, the FXX-K Evo gets a racing-inspired cabin featuring an F1 inspired steering wheel with integrated paddle shifters and buttons to control KERS. Screen showing rear viewing rear camera view has also been upgraded to a new 6.5-inch version which now displays data from the new telemetry system as well.
The FXX-K Evo is powered by a combination of a V12 petrol engine and a 140KW electric motor. The V12 produces 860PS of power and 750Nm of torque. But, combined with the motor, the total power and torque outputs surge to 1050PS and 890Nm respectively. The power is sent to wheels by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission sourced from Ferrari’s F1 team.
Like any other XX, even FXX-K Evo owners will be allowed to use the car only at dedicated Ferrari events. Ferrari has announced that during 2018/2019 season, it will have nine track outings in total, between the start of March and the end of October. These cars will also be taking part in the Finali Mondiali weekend, which is held at the end of every racing season.
