Own a Ferrari? Here’s some bad news for you. The Italian manufacturer has issued a follow-up recall for models that were equipped with faulty Takata airbags. These include models such as the 2009-13 California, 2010-13 458 Italia, 2012-13 FF and 2013 F12berlinetta. The first recall was done two years ago when 2,820 units of the 2010-11 458 Italia and the 2009-11 California were said to be affected to faulty passenger-side airbags.

It’s the same issue this time around as well. The company has said that the inflators for the passenger-side airbags on affected cars have a serious manufacturing defect that causes the propellant inside to degrade and absorb moisture over time. In the event of a collision, there’s a chance of the airbag inflator bursting and shooting shrapnel at occupants, leading to severe injuries or even death.

As per the National Traffic Safety Administration, the latest recall is set to affect over 1500 vehicles. In future, more Ferraris are expected to be affected by the Takata recall. However, Ferrari isn't the only company affected by faulty Takata airbags. It is reported that a whopping 69 million vehicles from major car manufacturers are affected by the issue. These include models such as the McLaren 570S, Lexus LFA and Tesla Model S, among others.

Even Japanese auto giants Honda and Toyota had issued a recall of over a million cars a while back. Toyota recalled around 6,01,00 vehicles alone in the US, while Honda had to recall 4,65,000 cars and Gold Wing motorcycles to replace the faulty airbags. Cars sold in India weren't spared either. Honda India issued a recall for 41,571 cars, including the Jazz, City, Civic and Accord, all manufactured in 2012. Even Nissan and Renault have issued a recall over the years due to faulty airbags. Expect more recalls to follow soon since many manufacturers still equip their cars with the faulty Takata inflators.
