It's not easy when you've just bought yourself one of the most exotic pieces of Italian engineering built and you're thinking, "Hmm...I need a little more punch out of this engine"! But Novitec Rosso has done just that and the result is a super car that betters its previous top speed and goes on to cross 330 km/h! Now that kind of figure doesn't just pop up one fine day - it's the culmination of years of engineering excellence and some serious hardware. Novitec Rosso has given the 16M a dose of its bi-compressor supercharged treatment making the 4.3 litre V8 capable of 696 horses and 682 Nm of torque!
The twin superchargers are cogged belt driven and can achieve a maximum boost pressure of 0.48 bar with each cylinder bank utilising its very own water to air intercooler. Everything's bigger on the intake side - larger cross section manifolds, larger injectors and high performance air filters. Keeping everything synchronised perfectly is an all new electronic engine management system from Novitec Rosso. The result - a 186 horsepower gain on the standard engine while torque abominates from 470Nm to 682Nm. All of those impressive engine statistics add up to some awesome acceleration - 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0-200km/h in 9.7 seconds and 0-300km/h in 23.8 seconds before crossing over 330km/h on top whack.
The Novitec Rosso 16M isn't all about just a hyper engine job. They've made sure that when they gave the performance, they imparted better handling as well. Sport springs help lower the car's centre of gravity while the stock 19 inch wheels are replaced with three-piece double-spoke 20 inch pieces shod with specially made rubber from Pirelli - 235/30 ZR 20 in the front and 325/25 ZR 20 at the rear. The changed wheel size also increases the car's track making for even better cornering speeds. A hydraulic system on the front axle good for 40mm of lift makes things practical for everyday use as well.
Minor but ergonomic changes on the inside like the flat bottomed leather/carbon fibre sport steering wheel and the elongated paddle shifters mark the interior job apart from colour requests in any combination. On the outside, owners can show off their Novitec Rosso Scuderia Spider 16M via black taillights, side markers and reflectors. The conversion isn't exactly cheap though. The bi-compressor engine mod itself will cost owners about 47,000 Euros. But in the end, we think it sure is worth it!
