The Fiat Punto successor, to be christened ‘Argo’, has been teased by the Italian carmaker ahead of its global unveil later this month. The Grande Punto hatchback designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro has been around for more than a decade internationally and has really started to show its age by now, especially when compared to its rivals.
From the teased images the Argo seems to get horizontally placed LED headlamps with eyebrow-like LED daytime running lights and fog lamps. Also seen are a dual-tone roof, spoiler and those sporty looking scorpion-inspired alloys. The rear gets a set of wrap-around LED tailamps, much like the one seen in the Tipo hatchback.
The Argo will be based on Fiat’s small wide platform, also seen in the Fiat 500x and the Tipo hatchback - which replaced the Linea, globally. Fiat will also be developing a mini-sedan based on the same platform to be sold in the BRICS countries. Even though Fiat still enjoy a considerable following in India, it's still not confirmed whether Fiat will bring the Punto replacement to our market, as it is hard to justify the same with the carmaker struggling to even achieve three-digit sales every month.
In Brazil, the Fiat will offer the Argo in three trims - Attractive, Essence and Sporting with three powertrain options - a 1.0-litre petrol motor producing 73PS of power and 102Nm of peak torque, a 1.3-litre petrol engine putting out 102PS and 134Nm of maximum torque and a 1.8-litre petrol motor producing 136PS and 184Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox. We hope Fiat India revamps its product portfolio soon and Fiat enthusiasts will be treated to new-gen cars with the same bullet-proof build quality and precise handling. Stay tuned to Zigwheels for details from the Argo’s official reveal later this month.
