The Fiat Punto was refreshed a few months ago but hasn’t really managed to make waves in the highly competitive Indian hatchback segment. One of the biggest problems with the new Punto Evo, with its improved looks and good handling is the lack of outright power both in the petrol and diesel variant. Now though, Fiat India will launch a new variant of the Punto Evo with the highly acclaimed T-Jet engine.
A 1.4-litre, turbocharged engine making 114PS of peak power and 207Nm of peak torque will power the Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet. If the performance in the Linea T-Jet is anything to go by, the Punto T-Jet should be quicker due to the lower kerb weight of the hatchback. The Punto T-Jet, when introduced, will also be the most powerful Rs sub-10 lakh hatchback in India, a title that was held by the Fiat Palio 1.6 for almost a decade.
Expect enthusiasts, both of the Fiat brand and general to get in line to buy this turbocharged hatchback especially if Fiat prices it well. The Punto T-Jet will go up squarely against the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI but will come with a manual gearbox unlike the Polo. Also expect the Fiat Punto T-Jet to come with slightly sportier styling, including a set of new wheels and possibly a racier sticker job. Fiat also has plans to launch the Abarth version of the new Punto Evo in the Indian market, however no timeline for the same has been announced.
