The refreshed Punto that was launched last year did not move the market like we expected it to. Even with its fresh new looks and exciting interior combined with the tried and tested diesel Multijet engine, the Punto just has not shown any real headway on the sales charts. That said, Fiat has always attracted the enthusiast motorists in India with all its history and excellent handling dynamics. Which is why, the Fiat Punto and Avventura T-Jet spied here is certainly an exciting car to wait for.
The Fiat Punto and Avventura T-Jet will get a 1.4-litre, turbocharged engine making 114PS of peak power and 207Nm of peak torque. The Punto T-Jet, when introduced, will also be the most powerful Rs sub-10 lakh hatchback in India, a title that was held by the Fiat Palio 1.6 for almost a decade. Judging by the performance in the Linea T-Jet, we think the Punto T-Jet will be even more powerful due to its lower overall weight.
Expect the Punto T-Jet to also get slightly sportier styling including a new set of wheels and perhaps a set of customized decals that might differentiate it from the regular and more pedestrian Puntos. The Punto T-Jet will go up squarely against the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and GT TDI but will come with a manual gearbox unlike the Polo. Although we do not expect great sales from the Punto T-Jet, expect a lot of early adopters of this car to be individuals who are automotive enthusiasts. And although no timeline has been given on a genuine Abarth verion of the Punto, it is definitely in the pipeline too.
