Recent spy shots from the roads of Thailand indicate Toyota will soon announce the crossover model based on the Corolla Altis. Expected to receive the Corolla Cross moniker, it will sit between the Yaris Cross and the RAV4 in the lineup offered by the brand in the markets of Thailand and South America.
Under the heavy camouflage of the test mule, the shape of the SUV bears a resemblance to the RAV4 but it will also feature design cues from the Yaris Cross. The Corolla Cross is underpinned by Toyota's TNGA modular architecture and will be in line with Toyota's design language.
There is no update on the interiors of the vehicle as of now but like its sedan sibling, it will feature plush interiors with premium materials. It is likely to be powered by the same engine as the Corolla Altis -- the 1.8L petrol and 2.0-litre flex-fuel engines will probably be tuned to accommodate the size of the SUV.

The Corolla Cross is expected to launch around mid-2021, but there is no news on whether it will make it to the Indian market. Toyota will mostly begin production of the SUV in its Brazil-based production facility. For now, Toyota India is focused on the introduction of its first compact-SUV based on Maruti's Vitara Brezza, which could be called the Urban Cruiser.
