Mr Ashok Ragunath Vichare wasn't a celebrity - until today. The middle-aged man from Mumbai led a normal life till about 6pm that evening when all of a sudden he was hoarded by a mob of media persons from both the print and the television world. Streaks of flashing cameras filled his eyes as his family looked on. Now, Mr Vichare is a celebrity and his name has gone down in history books- he is after all the first person in the world to own the most awaited car of the century - the Tata Nano.
Vichare received the keys to his Lunar Silver Nano LX at a brief function held at Concorde Motors - the Tata Motors dealership at Prabhadevi in the heart of Mumbai. The person handing over the keys was none other than Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata motors Ratan Tata. A very emotional but bewildered (at the media response) Vichare said, "This is indeed a very proud moment for me and my family. It is a matter of immense happiness to be the first customer of the Nano in India."
Along with Vichare, two other Nanos were also delivered to Ashish Balakrishnan and Kores India Limited. Balakrishnan took delivery of a Sunshine Yellow Nano LX while the Kores company owned car was the same colour and variant as Vichare's car. Tata Motors has now commenced deliveries of the people's car to different towns and cities in the country. Despatches of the cars from the Pantnagar plant have begun with the lucky customers informed of their delivery schedules. The revolution has begun!
