BYD India has launched the eMax7, essentially a facelifted version of the older e6 MPV, priced at Rs 26.9 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition to cosmetic changes and a smaller battery pack option, the updated model now brings more practicality onboard with third-row seating, available in both 6-seater and 7-seater layouts. This positions it as a considerable electric alternative to the popular nameplate doing rounds in this segment, the Toyota Innova Hycross.
While both vehicles offer plenty of comfort and convenience features, we'll explore the additional features the eMax7 brings to the table compared to the Innova Hycross in the next section.
The BYD eMax7 gets a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display compared to the 10.1-inch screen that comes in the Toyota Innova Hycross. Additionally, the screen is also rotatable in the eMax7 which makes it more convenient to use for both the front seat occupants. You get wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Carplay with both cars.
The eMax7 gets this feature which makes use of its battery pack to transfer power to other electronic devices or maybe another electric vehicle. The Innova Hycross being an ICE-powered vehicle misses out on this amenity. This feature can be useful if and when you go on picnics or road trips in a remote area.
You get a portable NFC key card along with the eMax7 that gets you access to the MPV without having to take out the key. It is of course a more cool and convenient unlocking feature to have compared to the remote unlocking that is available with the Innova Hycross.
This is another common feature found in cars today, and the eMax7 includes it as well. It helps you monitor your tyre pressure, preventing potential blowouts. While this feature doesn’t come standard in the Hycross, you can still add it as an accessory.
Might not be a deal-breaker but the rear dynamic turn indicator available with the eMax7 over the Innova Hycross is something that provides a more premium appeal to the car. It might not necessarily be a feature you can use, but it definitely helps the car look more modern.
Both the MPVs cater to similar needs of the buyers, but go about it in their unique ways. Both have a few shortcomings and advantages over each other. But at the end of the day, they are two good options to consider if you’re in the market for a feature-loaded family MPV. The prices for the BYD eMax7 range from Rs 26.9 lakh to Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom) while the prices for the Toyota Innova Hycross are between Rs 18.92 to Rs 30.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
