After launching the updated Figo in India, Ford seems to be readying a new variant of the Aspire compact sedan now. We say this as the Aspire was recently spied testing on our roads with the “Titanium Blu” badge. Before the launch of the 2019 Figo, there were many guesses that “Blu” denoted the CNG variant from Ford. As we’ve seen with the Figo, “Blu” actually stands for a sportier-looking variant, and not one powered by CNG as many had first guessed.
While there is no clarity from Ford on where the new variant will slot in, the addition of Titanium Blu could lead to a reshuffle in the variant lineup. Currently, the Aspire is available in five trims - Ambiente, Trend, Trend Plus, Titanium and Titanium Plus. Chances are that Ford might discontinue the Trend Plus and the Titanium Plus trims to streamline the Aspire lineup.
As seen in the spy shot, the new variant gets the “Blu” sticker on the boot lid. Just like the Figo Titanium Blu, expect all the chrome on the Aspire Titanium Plus to be replaced by blacked-out elements for the Blu edition. The rims, ORVM and the roof will be blacked-out and it will also get a blacked-out grille just like its hatchback counterpart. To stay true to the Blu tag, the bezel on the fog lamp housing is expected to be finished in a cool blue hue.
On the inside, Ford might opt for an all-black dashboard along with black seats, carried over from its smaller sibling, instead of the regular beige and black interior. The door pads on the Aspire Titanium Blu are also expected to have the blue inserts as the hatchback. Notably, Ford offered an all-black interior theme in the sportier ‘S’ variant that was discontinued with the facelift.
Engine options are likely to be carried over from the Titanium Plus variant. So you get a 96PS 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine and a 100PS 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine. It’s unclear if the 123PS 1.5-litre Dragon series petrol (with the six-speed automatic) will be offered in this trim. For the record, it’s not available in the Titanium Blu variant of the Figo.
The Aspire Titanium Blu is likely to have the same set of features as the Titanium Plus. Expect a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Ford’s Sync 3, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls and auto headlamps. Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, driver and passenger seatbelt warning and rear parking sensors.
Prices for the Ford Aspire start at Rs 5.55 lakh for the base petrol variant and go up till Rs 8.69 lakh for the Titanium automatic. The Aspire Titanium Plus is priced at Rs 7.45 lakh for the petrol and Rs 8.25 lakh for the diesel (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
