Ford has begun accepting bookings for the upcoming EcoSport facelift for a token amount of Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000, depending on the dealership. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza rival will be launched on November 9, 2017 and hopes to bring back the good times Ford saw when the EcoSport was first launched, way back in 2013. While we wait for the prices to be announced, here’s all you need to know about the Ford EcoSport facelift.
Design
The design updates on the EcoSport facelift are mostly limited to the front. While the pre-facelift model was universally accepted as being handsome, it had started to show its age of late.
The new front end features larger headlamps. The top-end variants get projector headlamps and LED DRLs, while the others make do with halogen reflector units. The split-grille design of the pre-facelift version has been ditched. The large grille now moves closer to the bonnet and is similar in overall design to the one found on the larger Endeavour. The larger fog lamps/indicator cluster, silver faux front skid plate, together with the new bumper design give the new EcoSport an aggressive look.
The changes to the EcoSport facelift at the side are limited to the new larger 17-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear too, the changes are not in your face. The spare wheel cover design is new, and the rear bumper has been modified to mimic the design at the front.
Inside, the biggest changes are the completely new dashboard, instrument cluster, centre console and steering wheel.
The seats are completely new with leather upholstery, the door pads have fabric soft-touch armrest and there is a new front centre armrest with storage.
Colours
The Ford EcoSport facelift will be offered in seven colour options, just like before. The shades are different though, and so are the names of the ones which look similar as before. The Golden Bronze (brown) colour has been dropped in favour of the new Race Red (proper red). The rest of the colours remain similar, namely Lightning Blue (earlier Kinetic Blue), Canyon Ridge (Mars Red), Diamond White, Moondust Silver, Absolute Black (Panther Black) and Smoke Grey.
Engine and Transmission
The engine options on the Ford EcoSport facelift have received a major shakeup. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged Ecoboost petrol motor has been dropped altogether. And, the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine has been replaced by an all-new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine.
The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, on the other hand, remains as is. Transmission options paired with the petrol engine include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a new 6-speed auto. The 6-speed dual-clutch transmission has now been discontinued. The diesel engine, like before, is only available paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine develops almost as much power as the discontinued Ecoboost engine - at 123PS @ 6500rpm, it falls short by only 2PS. Meanwhile, it develops 150Nm of peak torque at 4500rpm which is less than the Ecoboost, but more than the previous 1.5-litre petrol.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine, on the other hand, has the same power/torque output as before - 100PS @ 3750rpm and 205Nm @ 1750 - 3250rpm.
Mileage
The Ford EcoSport petrol MT variants have an ARAI-certified mileage of 17kmpl, while the petrol AT variants have a mileage of 14.8kmpl.
The Ford EcoSport diesel MT variants have an ARAI-certified mileage of 23kmpl, which is a slight improvement of 0.73kmpl.
