Ford touched a significant milestone recently with its Figo hatchback crossing the 3 lakh sales mark. Currently, the car is exported to over 37 markets overseas.
"The Figo continues to be a game-changer for Ford in India and has helped position Ford as a significant player. Today, as we celebrate the 3,00,000 sales milestone, I thank our customers in India and international markets for making the Figo their product of choice and placing their confidence in the Ford brand,” said Ford India President and Managing Director Joginder Singh as per a PTI report.
Spurred by the brand’s success and the overwhelming response to the EcoSport, Ford said that it will continue to expand its network to build on the brand. The company will add five new dealerships this month as part of plans to increase the number of its sales and service network to 500 by 2015. The new dealerships will be opened in tier III cities: Solan, Sri Ganganagar, Gaya, Anand and Sikar. The company also promised more dealerships in Faridabad and Kochi in due course.
“These additions to our dealer footprint are part of our aggressive expansion plans of reaching closer to customers in India,” Singh added.
Introduced in March 2010, the Figo became an instant hit with 60,000 units sold till December the same year. However, the Figo isn’t quite the bestseller it once used to be anymore despite receiving a facelift in October 2012. Between April and July 2013, the company sold just 11,988 units of the Figo. In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Swift’s sales stood at 10,461 for July 2013 alone.
Ford has been working on shoring up interest in the Figo with various campaigns and promotions regularly. In March this year, it had also launched a special edition Figo to mark the model’s third anniversary. Read More: Ford’s limited edition kit for the Figo
