Aside from the electric powertrain, the Bronco EV could get a closed-off front grille, new colors, and new upholstery options.
It should be the perfect counter to the upcoming Jeep Wrangler EV.
The Bronco will likely get a plug-in-hybrid iteration before it goes all-electric.
A debut might be on the cards for 2022.
While Ford’s latest EV offering, the F-150 Lightning, is set to debut on May 19, CEO Jim Farley has sort of hinted at another upcoming electric vehicle from Ford EV. Basically, Ford could offer all-electric propulsion to the Bronco SUV. While it's not a concrete confirmation, Jim Farley’s response suggests that it is very much part of Ford’s future roadmap.
The Bronco being considered for an all-electric iteration doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Jeep recently took the wraps off the Magneto all-electric concept based on the Wrangler. The production-spec model may debut this year or in early 2022.
The biggest change in the Bronco EV is obviously going to be the electric powertrain setup that is in place of the current internal combustion engine lineup consisting of a 2.3-litre EcoBoost and a 2.7-litre V6 EcoBoost engine. Like the standard model, we expect a variety of off-road goodies for the electrified Bronco.
Like most electrified models, expect some styling differences in the Bronco EV compared to its ICE counterpart to get its own identity. This could include special accents all over, a closed-off front grille, and new upholstery options.
There’s no word on when the Bronco will go electric, but it might take until 2022 before it debuts. Before we get the Ford Bronco EV though, it's likely that a plug-in-hybrid iteration of the Bronco will arrive to take on the Wrangler 4xe. Aside from the Wrangler, the Bronco also rivals the Land Rover Defender.
